Don Julio is a brand of tequila founded in 1985 by the sons of Don Julio González-Frausto Estrada, who began distilling tequila in 1942 at the age of 17. Today, the brand is owned by Diageo, who paid nearly 2 million US dollars for it following the liquidation of the Seagrams company in 1999.
Don Julio currently makes five types of 100% Blue Agave tequila: Blanco, Reposado, Añejo, and two super-añejos -- 1942 and Real. The Reposado is aged for 8 months in American oak, the Añejo for 18, the 1942 for at least two and a half years, and the Real between three and five years.
