F.E. Trimbach is a wine and spirits producer based in the Alsace village of Ribeauville since 1626. Maison Trimbach was founded by Jean Trimbach, and was a leading wine producer by the turn of the 20th century under the leadership of Frederic Emilie Trimbach.
Now in the 13th generation of family ownership, the Trimbach family makes bone dry, high acid, supremely elegant expressions of Riesling, Gewurztraminer, Pinot Gris, Pinot Blanc, and Muscat. They also make a line of dryish Vendange Tardive (Late Harvest) wines, and some desserty Selection des Grains Nobiles.
Trimbach is famous for two wines that both are from Grand Cru vineyards, though they choose not to label them as such. The first is Cuvee Frederic Emilie, a Riesling from the Grand Crus of Geisberg and Osterberg. The second is Clos Ste. Hune, a Riesling from a subplot of the Grand Cru of Rosacker, and one of the world's great wines.
While the spirits side of the Trimbach portfolio is a bit more difficult to find, they are well worth while. There is a range of spirits and liqueurs, including eau de vie (Kirschwasser, Framboise, Mirabelle and Poire Williams, all at 90 proof) and liqueurs (Framboise, Poire Williams).
