Whiskey liqueur is a liqueur that is based on [ingredient=whiskey whiskey], and is usually flavored with herbs, spices, or other flavorings. Before the advent of modern distillation practices, most whisky was poorly made, with harsh aromas and flavors, too much alcohol, or not enough aging to round out the spirit. Sweetening and flavoring these early whiskies became a way to make them more palatable. 

There are hundreds of whisky liqueurs made today, in a multitude of flavors. Some are as simple as sweetening whisky with honey. Others are complex, involving dozens of herbs and spices in secret recipies. Some of the more well known whisky liqueurs include:
