Sweet but interesting with considerable clove/anise/baking spice/saffron, some cherry and the heat of the bourbon (I used Evan Williams Bottled-in-Bond which might have been a bit hot for this drink.) Overall effect was intense, which is not a bad thing. A different bitter might work here to go in a different direction from Angostura: maybe orange, cherry, walnut or peach?
