1 1⁄2 oz Rye
1 1⁄2 oz Aperol
1⁄4 oz Simple syrup
1 Maraschino cherry (as garnish)
Instructions

Stir, strain, straight up, cocktail, garnish

Notes

Apparently Eastern Standard uses 1/2 oz of a 1:1 mixture of Maraschino and simple.

History

Riff on a Red Hook by adding Aperol. Prospect Park, like Red Hook, is in Brooklyn, NY. Both drinks start from a Manhattan.

Wow, was this really not on here before? A Boston classic!

I just went to try this tonight and -- THE HUMANITY -- out of Punt e Mes. How I could let this happen, I do not know. Zach is going to strip me of my rank in the Federation of Amari Sluts.

If you can't spell Nonino, you aren't allowed to drink it. Go directly to Jägermeister; do not pass Go.

Hmm... I'm imagining a bar where you have to spell your drink in order to get served. As much as I abhor mangled English, I do not go there often. ;)

Great cocktail! I enjoyed one of these last weekend at the Eastern Standard.

When I asked for the recipe, I was told they cut the Luxardo Maraschino Liquor with a 1:1 simple syrup for this cocktail. Sure enough, when I mixed this up at home according to the ratios here, I found the drink was overpowered with the Maraschino flavor!

Thoughts, anyone?

I believe it. Recipe adjusted as per your info. Thanks!

Following a discussion about why you can't make Manhattan variants with Scotch, I made this with Monkey Shoulder and recommend the result. Maybe a little sweeter than with rye, and almost certainly needs a new name. Tartan Hook?

When I got the recipe years ago, they never mentioned cutting it. And I just got a copy of their bar bible, and it is a 1/2 oz Maraschino and no simple syrup. I've made it at work plenty with 1/2 oz Maraschino and it tastes just like I remember it.

Yeah my friend got the recipe for this in the 00s directly from Tommy and there was no simple, it's definitely .5 maraschino.
