Dark and Orangey

2 oz Dark rum
1 oz Ginger liqueur, King's Ginger
1⁄2 oz Triple sec, Cointreau
3⁄4 oz Lime juice
1 ds Orange bitters, Angostura Orange
1 twst Lemon peel (as garnish)
Instructions

Shake, strain, rocks, lowball, garnish

Notes

Recommend 1oz Smith & Cross and 1oz molasses-forward rum (Goslings 151 worked).

History

Revised to be more tarter, more ginger-forward. Originally was 1oz Cointreau, 1/2 Gingembre, 1/2 lemon, 3d orange bitters.

Amari & bitter friends: an update

Prior to The Great Site Update of Christmas 2014, we published a list of amari hidden under a link on the recommended brands page. We have put some time and thought into our bitter friends, and have split the list into our top dozen or so recommendations, plus a list of other amari that are available.

Some amari are easy to find; others ... not so much. There are hundreds of amari that aren't even imported to the US. Look for amari at larger liquor stores, or specialty stores in the Italian section of your city.

Steve made an excellent follow up video explaining that we've all been doing this one wrong. I would like to add portions of that here with respect to the actual calls and notes on how the coffee liqueur was prepared--even if that is not what is in the current drink.

    Oops. Fixed. I was trying to transcribe from memory and I failed (slightly). The 1 oz instead of 3/4 oz would still work but will end your evening quicker.
