Ding Dong

1 oz Rye
3⁄4 oz Aperol
1⁄2 oz Maraschino Liqueur, Luxardo
3⁄4 oz Lemon juice
2 ds Orange bitters, Regans' orange bitters
Instructions

Shake all ingredients over ice, strain into chilled cocktail glass.

Notes

If you miss the mezcal smokiness of the original Division Bell, substitute the Rye for the peated Scotch of your choice.

  • Clear burnt orange color. Maraschino funk dominates nose. Pleasant bitter orange flavor. Finish has orange baby aspirin taste.
  • Refreshing rye cocktail. I used Sagarmore 83 proof. Could benefit from bonded rye or try the Division Bell variation with single malt.

Tried again with Clyde May's Bourbon, Aperol, Luxardo, Lemon Juice and Angistora Orange Bitters (6-7ds). Still too sweet.
