A Spontaneous Libation for your Consideration

Negroni Crusta

3⁄4 oz Gin
3⁄4 oz Sweet vermouth
3⁄4 oz Campari
1⁄4 oz Curaçao
1⁄4 oz Lemon juice
1 twst Lemon peel (Long and wide as a garnish; orange twist is an option)
1 Sugar (Rimmed glass)
Instructions

Shake with ice, strain into a narrow cocktail glass (sub narrow wine glass or small flute) rimmed with sugar, and garnish with a long wide lemon or orange twist (lemon twist) wrapped around the interior of the glass' rim.

Notes

The citrus and liqueurs (especially the Maraschino) work to make this a bit more gentle for a Negroni-based drink.

History

For Negroni Week 2018, I was inspired by the 1852 Crusta and I adapted the Negroni to this dandy of a presentation.

Bourbon: Finding the Good Stuff

So look… this doesn't work in Oregon. The best thing to do here is to keep an eye on the Next Month Price Change list, and find things that you want that are going way down in price. Most recently, this was the infamous Laphroaig 10 for $20.25, but about a year ago, A. de Fussigny Tres Vielle Cognac dropped from $220 to $100 a bottle, and if you know that it’s a 50 year old Cognac that hasn’t been made in 10-15 years… well, let’s just say it was worth the drive to Eugene to pick up two bottles.

It also doesn’t work in Washington, which is too new at the private liquor sales game to have dusty old bottles lying around. There’s a lot of clean, bright new liquor stores and some helpful people, but taxes being what they are up there… I’d just avoid wasting a lot of time looking in Washington for liquor.

    Depending on the scotch I might tweak the coconut. I think the current amount in general could bumped up a tiny bit to lend more texture and weight.

    But, as others have said, pineapple + coconut cream + scotch = what’s not to love?

    Reminds me of a full-bodied falernum which probably makes sense given the lemon and almond notes it should have, this is a 10/10, unbelievable!
