1⁄4 oz Vodka
1⁄4 oz Absinthe bitters
1⁄4 oz Amaro (Amaro Angeleno)
1 spg Basil
1 Cherry tomato (as garnish)
1 Olive (as garnish)
1 lf Basil (as garnish)
Instructions

Muddle sprig of basil with gin, saline solution and ice; add other ingredients and stir until chilled. Serve with a garnish of one olive, one cherry tomato, and a basil leaf on a toothpick.

Notes

Amaro used was Amaro Angeleno, a bitter citrus aperitif amaro from Ventura Spirits in Ventura, CA. Could substitute with Amaro Florio or dealer's choice.

History

First made on July 16, 2022 as requested by EB. A variation that turned out half Vesper, half Dirty Martini--named after Léa Seydoux's character in Daniel Craig's Bond series.

  • Used 1.75 oz Dickel 8 yr sour mash and 5 drops Bittercube Jamaican #2. A solid 4.0 to 4.5 drink.
  • This is an amazing cocktail. Would probably stick with real Tennessee Whisky and this is one where the minerality of something like Dickel really helps.

Don't Talk to Strangers

3⁄4 oz Pisco
3⁄4 oz Cachaça
1⁄2 oz Campari
1⁄2 oz Swedish Punsch
1⁄2 oz Lime juice
1⁄8 oz Cinnamon syrup
3 dr Bitters, Angostura (As garnish)
Instructions

Shake once without ice and once with ice, strain into a cocktail coupe or single old fashioned glass, and garnish with drops of Angostura Bitters.

History

I became intrigued by the Campari-Swedish punsch combination in the Sleeping With Strangers, and I decided to take it in the direction of the South American Honey Bee with pisco, cachaça, lime, and egg white. It needed a little more pizazz and a touch of sweetness to balance, so I added in some cinnamon syrup that worked well with Swedish punsch in the Oaxacan Punch. For a name, I took the original inspiration in the direction of a Rick Springfield song title.

Reggae Ruby

1 oz Campari
3⁄4 oz Lime juice
1⁄2 oz Simple syrup
5 Cherry (Bing or Rainier)
Instructions

Muddle cherries well at the bottom of shaker.
Add other ingredients.
Shake well with ice.
Strain over large ice cube in a double old fashioned glass.
Optional garnish with 3 skewered cherries.

Notes

Funky cherry fruit punch with an herbal bitter finish.

History

This is a refreshing riff on the Enzoni by Vincenzo "Enzo" Errico which incorporates daiquiri with fresh cherries instead of a gin sour with grapes. A smashable summer drink that I go to whenever cherries are in season!

  • Good but too bitter and rum is a bit too funky. I'll try with appleton next. Worth fiddling with, love the idea.

LemonMelon commented on 9/23/2022:

Funny enough I experimented with Plantation 5, Bacardi 8, Appleton, and settled on S&C because I figured rum enthusiasts here would prefer the funkier higher proof kick. This might be smoother:
1-1⁄2 oz Aged rum (Appleton?)
1⁄2 oz Campari
3⁄4 oz Lime juice
3⁄4 oz Simple syrup
5 muddled cherries
