Barring rum, shake all ingredients with ice and strain into a tumbler filled with crushed ice. Float the rum and garnish with the cherry. Serve with a straw.

Made this on a cold night in Virginia: October 2025
Beautiful play on a Vieux Carré. The added Cynar, at the expense of sweet vermouth, adds an earthy, bittersweet depth. Used cherry wood for the smoke and really enjoyed that.
Stir ingredients together in a mixing glass with ice. Strain into coupe. Garnish.
Solid 4. Didn't have rosemary sprig but still good.
Made with Clement Rhum Agricole.
Rosemary is unneeded and in fact a bit dissonant when included. Substitute a grapefruit peel for the lemon peel to amplify rhum agricole grassiness, if you wish.
Pass rosemary. I also made twist with Havana Club 3*, Dry Vermouth and Strega.
