Dusky Sunset
Dealers choice: Build in the glass, or mix and strain. Serve up, or over one big rock. (I prefer the latter.)
A spin on my legendary “Smoky Sunset” (https://kindredcocktails.com/cocktail/smoky-sunset). Yeah, it’s a lazy Negroni sub. But it takes advantage of the natural affinity between Bruto & Mezcal. The Punt e Mes accentuates the bitterness - even makes it slightly astringent - and helps shape a great warm weather combo.
- Oaxacan Cocktail — Mezcal, Campari, Sweet vermouth, Lemon peel
- Rodeo Ghost — Mezcal, Zucca, Sweet vermouth, Bitters, Orange peel
- Oaxacan Negroni — Mezcal, Campari, Sweet vermouth, Lemon peel
- Smoke on the Horizon — Mezcal, Dry vermouth, Bruto Americano, Gran Classico, Orange peel, Lemon peel
- Porque no los dos? — Mezcal, Sweet vermouth, Campari, Gran Classico, Lemon peel
Made this a few times in the year since it was posted and it's good stuff. After I made it tonight I thought I might try 1.25 tequila and .75 sotol maybe.
EDIT: Did that tonight, might be preferable to some. Used Marie Gifford for the first time ever in a drink, as I was using homemade creme de cacao. Still great. Maybe one of my top 16.5 cocktails
