1 oz Rye, Rittenhouse
1⁄2 oz Sweet vermouth
1⁄2 oz Coffee liqueur
1⁄4 oz Mezcal
1 bsp Orange Curaçao
1 twst Lemon
Instructions

Stir all ingredients, strain into chilled coupe. Express and garnish with lemon swath.

Enjoyed this but am still confused about the name since the only overlap with Joaquin Simo's Midnight Marauder is mezcal (Simo's has an ounce) and something vermouth-like (Simo's has Bonal).

Bartenders Root Beer

3⁄4 oz Fernet Branca
3⁄4 oz CioCiaro
1⁄2 oz Gin, Aviation
1⁄2 oz Brewed Tea (Sassafras)
3 oz Cola, Coca Cola
3 oz Club soda
Instructions

Build in a 10 oz Collins glass, fill with ice and then top with half soda and half cola. If filling sinful, garnish with a scoop of vanilla ice cream and a demitasse spoon

Notes

The sassafras tea used in this cocktail really cements the root beer flavor and it isn’t the same without it.

Created in pursuit of the ultimate dressed up fernet and cola.

  • 8/1/23: Made with Liber and Co classic gum syrup instead of cinnamon syrup. The recipe sounded too sweet as written but it was not. Drink was okay. Not as good as a Jägerita. Might be interested to try a Mai Tai riff with Fernet in place of rum.

  • Quite a fascinating drink. Branca Menta and Orange Flower water play well together, none overpowers. I am quite positive an Irish whiskey as a base would work just as well. 4.5*
