1 oz Calvados, Berneroy (Berneroy FINE has intense apple aroma. This the French representative.)
1 oz Jägermeister (This is the German representative.)
1⁄2 oz Galliano (Galliano Autentico. This is the Italian representative)
1 oz Lemon juice
1⁄2 oz Rich demerara syrup 2:1
2 oz Tonic water
1 twst Lemon peel
Instructions

Shake all ingredients sans tonic water in tin half filled with ice. Strain into a coupe and complete with tonic water.
Express the lemon twist over the drink and drop it in the glass.

Notes

This was inspired by the “European Union” created by Alex Day, which you can find in the Cocktail CODEX. However, that drink still includes Gin - definitely not 2024 EU.

For a balanced EU drink, I included two spirits and one amaro from the three largest economies in the union, enhanced by the tonic water.

Las Vegas Sunrise

2 oz Blanco tequila
1⁄4 oz Grenadine
4 oz Soda water (Cactus Cooler Orange Pineapple)
1 wdg Lime

1 pn Pomegranate seeds (as garnish)
Instructions

Build in ice filled highball glass. Add tequila then soda to fill. Squeeze lime wedge into glass and drop in. Pour grenadine over back of spoon so that it settles to bottom. Garnish with mint sprig and pomegranate arils.

Bonus environmental garnish: flashing lights, stale cigarette smoke, and slot machine sounds.

The original recipe has more lemon juice. I find that cutting back lets more of the spiced rum come forward

History

I was looking for a cocktail to drink during the movie Casablanca in preparation and as background to streaming Monsieur Spade on Netflix before I realized that I should have been watching The Maltese Falcon.
