3⁄4 oz Rosemary syrup
Instructions

History

Personally had this at the infamous Bagatelle in NYC back in the day RIP

[Curator's note: the video is from ~2016. The cocktail name had been around for years before this and to varied and completely different recipes. This appears to be only one establishment's version.]

Fanny Wright

2 oz Blended Scotch (I used Duncan Taylor 12)
1⁄4 oz Averna
1⁄4 oz Bruto Americano
2 t Maraschino cherry, Luxardo
Instructions

Stir, strain, up

Notes

I wanted a drink that would complement a rich stew. This is rich enough to stand up to it but bitter enough to provide a lovely contrast.

Shawn C commented on 2/18/2026:

Good cocktail, cool name reference, and I can tell it would work very well with a rich stew. The Bruto Americano adds some cooking herb flavors for another dimension. I tried it using Cutty Sark Prohibition for its flavor, but the 100 proof made it a little hot, so I recommend sticking to an 80 proof as in the original call. I used 1/4 oz Maraschino vs. 1/3 oz (2 tsp) as I was worried that might dominate--I can be a little gun shy with Luxardo.

Strawberry Roan

2 oz Rye
1⁄2 oz Brucato Amaro Chaparral (or Green Chartreuse)
1⁄2 oz Lime juice
1⁄4 oz Simple syrup
4 oz Strawberry Soda (Jarritos)
1 spg Mint (as garnish)
1 Strawberry (as garnish)
Instructions

Shake first four ingredients with ice. Strain into highball glass with ice, fill with strawberry soda. Add strawberry and mint as garnish.

Notes

While Green Chartreuse is listed as an option, the Chaparral makes more sense, since the latter is from California, as is the cowboy song "Strawberry Roan" originally written as a poem by Curley Fletcher in 1915. The light mint flavor of the yerba santa in the Chaparral is also a better match for the strawberry than Chartreuse

  • The Cane & Melon completely surprised us in the best way. It’s incredibly refreshing but still feels elevated and intentional, not just another fruity cocktail. The melon comes through so fresh and juicy, and there’s this subtle herbal depth that keeps you going back for another sip. It’s light, crisp, and perfectly balanced, the kind of drink that feels like summer in a glass but is still sophisticated enough for a cocktail night. — ★★★★★

  • Deliciously different than the sum of its parts. Frederic Yarm's tasting notes are spot on: The Not a Melon gave forth a cucumber-melon aroma with rye notes peeping through. Next, a vegetal, lemon, and malt sip led into rye, bubble gum, and cucumber on the swallow.

  • Subbed Pere Labat 59 rhum agricole for the aged cachaca. Homemade grenadine using Morgenthaler spec. Blood orange at the start, and After Eight on the finish. Really delicious. Added a few drops of saline, which punched up the orange to Tang and Jolly Rancher, brought on the chocolate notes earlier, and toned down the menthol and bitter finish. Overall prefer it w/out the saline. Try with xocolatl bitters next time instead.

Charitable Figure

1 1⁄2 oz Rye, Rittenhouse
3⁄4 oz Brucato Woodlands Amaro (1 oz provides more fig flavor)
3⁄4 oz Maurin Quina
1 Fig (dried mission fig for optional garnish)
1 Brandied cherry (for optional garnish, plus smoked gouda)
Instructions

Stir with ice, strain into cocktail glass. Optional garnish with cocktail skewer of dried mission fig, smoked gouda cheese, and Luxardo cherry.

Notes

The garnish is optional, but a small piece of smoked gouda enhances the fig aroma in the drink. A brandied cherry works well with or without the cheese, and a dried mission fig opposite the cherry can complete the presentation.

The Brucato Woodlands has a pleasant fig character that works well in a black Manhattan/boulevardier fusion. The cherry in the wine based Maurin quina complements the fig.

History

The combination of cherry and fig made "charitable" and "figure" pop into my head. I thought of a friend and local philanthropist and arrived at the name.
