2 oz Pineapple rum
1⁄4 oz Crème de Banane
1⁄4 oz Fernet Branca
1⁄8 oz Demerara syrup (1:1)
1 rinse Absinthe (As rinse)
Instructions

Stir with ice and strain into an absinthe-rinsed old fashioned glass.

History

While flipping through Death & Co.'s Welcome Home book, I spotted the Lost Horizon that made me recall the Banana Toronto at Offsuit. That inspired me to use the Fernet-crème de banane duo, and I fused the idea with two Sazerac variations – namely, Trina's Starlite Lounge's Stigginserac and Death & Co.'s Bananarac. The pineapple part made me think of the "Pen Pineapple Apple Pen" song, so I dubbed this one after its artist Pikotaro.

Fistuk's house

2 oz Peach liqueur, Suntory Kanade white peach
3⁄4 oz Pistachio liqueur, Bottega crema di pistacchi
1⁄4 oz Apricot liqueur, Giffard abricot du Roussillon
Instructions

Stir thoroughly (you wanna mix the cream liqueur in properly but without diluting the whole thing and loosing texture). Strain into a Nick & Nora. No garnish

Notes

Another example of letting the ingredients do the work for you. It is crucial to use these (sadly expensive) specific ingredients. Will not vouch for the outcome of any other combo.

I’m afraid I had only one of these exact ingredients (the apricot liqueur) but the peach and pistachio liqueurs I did made it work nonetheless

Is That All There Is?

3⁄4 oz Mezcal
3⁄4 oz Rhum Agricole
1⁄2 oz Suze
1⁄2 oz Aperol
1⁄2 oz Lime juice
2 ds Peychaud's Bitters
1 twst Grapefruit peel (As garnish)
Instructions

Shake with ice, strain into a cocktail coupe, and garnish with grapefruit oil from a twist.

History

I became inspired by Attaboy-Nashville's Palm Sunday while writing it up on the blog, and I extracted its Suze-Aperol combination and took it in a citrus direction akin to the Square Root. For the spirit, I went with the quirky combination of mezcal and rhum agricole that I have utilized before such as in the All of Freud's Beautiful Women. For a name, Sam Ross' Too Soon? made me think of another question – that being Peggy Lee's song Is That All There Is?

Bursting with flavor. I had the standard Choya Umeshu rather than red "shiso" or "extra shisu" infused variants which should add some anise/licorice notes. I also lacked yuzu syrup, but had some kumquat cordial (Death & Co.) begging to be used here. Other subs were Domaine de Canton ginger liqueur and Drillaud Pamplemousse. Definitely to the sweet side, but seems to fit the character of the flavors together.

Plumage

1 1⁄2 oz Gin, Tanqueray 10
1⁄2 oz Sloe gin, Sipsmith
1⁄4 oz Becherovka
1⁄4 oz Tamarind syrup
1⁄4 oz Apple syrup (Red apple)

Notes

An umami A-bomb! A very Japanese Manhattan (thus the name) subbing bourbon with Awamori, vermouth with a mirin liqueur and Angostura with Umami bitters. Very balanced, surprisingly mellow & harmonious.

History

I apologize for the rarity of the ingredients. I just chanced upon them, came up with the idea and was thoroughly wowed, so had to offer this up for anyone who may have access to these ingredients. You HAVE to use a high ABV awamori here. Angostura bitters are a good substitute for the umami bitters BUT, if you're making this and have the other ingredients, then probably you won't need this sub. enjoy!

Build in a mule mug filled 2/3 with crushed/pebble ice. gently swizzle. Garnish (only if you must! with 1 star anise and several crushed unshelled almonds)

Notes

A Mediterranean mule. If you have no access to Arak feel free to use another Mediterranean anise (Pastis, Ojen, Raki. Sambuca or Absinthe are less preferred here). Ideal for a very hot day at the beach
