subspot commented on 1/19/2022:

Might need a little more sweetness, very dry as is with my pineapple gomme syrup from Cocktail Codex which is a 1-1 sugar to pineapple juice (with added acid and gum powder). Almost a bit too christmasy, but very good.

The Kentucky Italian

1 1⁄2 oz Bourbon, Angel's Envy
3⁄4 oz Bergamot liqueur, Italicus
3⁄4 oz Lemon juice
3⁄4 oz Simple syrup
1 twst Lemon peel (as garnish)
Instructions

Long shake, strain into a rocks glass with fresh cracked ice. Rub twist around the inside of the glass under the lip and rest it on the top.

Notes

Floral, light, and quite refreshing.

History

Made it up on a Friday night because my wife said she wanted something with Bourbon and Italicus. Totally welcome to advice and alterations, additions, or substitutions. That being said, I'm sure someone has made something similar before so I am probably not the first to bridge these two flavors

  • Good and straightforward. Tried with 1 oz Italicus, 3/4 lemon and 1/2 simple.
  • Delicious drink. Reminds me of a more citrus paper plane
  • Made with honey syrup instead of simple - which was nice
  • Claire likes - light and refreshing

Instructions

Shake with ice the gin, Violette, and lemon juice. Pour into a frozen coupe glass.
Gently add the FeverTree elderflower tonic.

Notes

I put the FeverTree tonic into the freezer for awhile to get it icy cold. Thus when adding, the cocktail stays icy cold.

History

In memory of a Naval Academy graduate.

  • Needs to be a little sweeter
  • Made with Glenlivet Caribbean Reserve, Botanist Gin & Cocchi di Torino. Really interesting how the barley notes from the scotch get tamed into breakfast cereal territory.

Last Bird

3⁄4 oz Jamaican rum, Smith & Cross (Works best with Smith & Cross IMO)
3⁄4 oz Campari
3⁄4 oz Pineapple juice
1⁄2 oz Lime juice
1⁄4 oz Herbal liqueur, Green Chartreuse
Instructions

Shake, strain into Nick & Nora or Coupe. No garnish.

Notes

Rum-Pineapple-Campari Tiki Jungle Bird magic meets the citric sharpness of the Last Word.

History

A Jungle Bird riff on the Last Word seemed pretty obvious to me, but Googling didn't turn up any recipes that were that faithful to either. I played with the ratios of Lime / Pineapple / Chartreuse until it felt balanced and truthful to both drinks.
