Hawaiian golden rum balances well, darker might be even better. Freezer-cooled rum limits dilution by ice. Use fresh-ground Kona if at all possible, with its crisp acidity. Some prefer less coffee in favor of cola (depending on your java).

- Smokey Paloma — Reposado Tequila, Ancho Reyes chile liqueur, Grapefruit juice, Soda water, Simple syrup, Hellfire Habanero Shrub, Lime, Salt
- Midnight Sun — Cuban rum, Galliano, White Crème de Cacao, Raspberry liqueur, Soda water, Grapefruit juice, Raspberry, Grapefruit peel
- Dead Man's Mule — Absinthe, Allspice Dram, Ginger beer, Orgeat, Lime juice
