  • Used a cherry garnish in place of the cherry bitters. Intriguing taste. Biggest demerit was the cloudy gray color (at least when made with R&W violette like I did).

Excellent variation! I made it with Vedrenne Violette Parfait Amour instead of Bitter Truth's creme de violette and it tasted much better and more balanced than traditional recipes. The color was nice sky blue too.

Violet's Party

3 oz Añejo tequila, Partida

Stir, strain, one large rock, garnish.

Notes

Stir & Strain cut the violette back a 1/4 oz from the original and upped the lime juice a 1/4 oz.

  • Had with pernod, much more than a splash of green chartreuse, and mint bitters. Used a large ice cube instead of crushed ice (no ice crusher). Lovely, crisp, and anise-y, wound up significantly greener with the mint bitters.
  • Lime and Liquorish, right up my alley. Made with extra Chartreuse
  • Black licorice and lime with a vague herbal background, a lot like a Dr. Funk. Could use a bit more Chartreuse for complexity.

1⁄8 t Nutmeg
1 ? Cinnamon stick

Instructions

Add rye, calvados, canton, honey and lemon juice to a 12oz enamelware mug. Top off w/ ~4-6oz hot water. Grate nutmeg across the top, drop in a cinnamon stick, stir thoroughly and add a lemon wheel

My ginger twist on the classic "May Daisy" cocktail. It's definitely sweeter, but the intense ginger, lemon, and interesting depth from the rhubarb bitters keeps it from being cloying

History

The Minnehaha (a Lakota Sioux word for "curling water" or "waterfall") is one of those classic cocktails that has 101 different recipes. This is close to the Savoy version, but I went lighter on the orange juice. I'm assuming there will be a lot of interpretations for this cocktail's build.

Just an FYI: The Appleton Special line was rebranded as Kingston 62 in 2020 in case anyone wants to stick to the brand specifically called out in the recipe.

Tasty drink. The chartreuse really is front and center in the taste profile, but the other elements play nicely in the background supporting the chartreuse. I made it using Appleton Signature and OFTD.
