3 T Dragonfruit
1 1⁄2 oz Gin (Pomp & Whimsy)
3⁄4 oz Junmai Sake (Soto)
3⁄4 oz Cherry Liqueur, Sangue Morlacco
1⁄2 oz Amaro (Pergote Amaro d' Erbe)
1⁄2 oz Saffron tincture (Sogol)
Instructions

1. Gently muddle the dragonfruit in the shaker.
2. Add all ingredients and shake vigorously with ice.
3. Strain into a frozen coupe glass.

Notes

1. Use lots of dragonfruit for the muddle. There is not much juice as it smooshes into a mush. So the more there is, the more flavor will get transferred during the shaking.

Rhino Boulevard

2 oz Bourbon, Old Grand Dad 100
1 oz Aperitivo (Rinomato)
Instructions

Stir, strain, orange peel garnish.

Notes

Rinomato, somewhere between Campari and Aperol, recently arrive in my hometown, and I thought a Boulevardier riff would put it to good use. Chose bourbon instead of rye for the relatively more mellow Rinomato. A dash of bitters is a departure from the classic Boulevardier, but adds that extra something. Orange or whiskey barrel or black walnut are also recommended.

Mr. Swizzle

1 1⁄2 oz Demerara Rum
3⁄4 oz Coffee liqueur, Mr. Black
1⁄2 oz Honey syrup (2:1)
3⁄4 oz Lemon juice
1 sli Lemon (as garnish)
Instructions

Build in a tall glass 3/4 full of ice. Swizzle. Top with more ice as needed. Garnish.

Notes

I’ve noticed that most cocktails made with Mr. Black are evening cocktails with heavy flavors. I wanted to go the opposite route and create something refreshing and bright. The Mr. Swizzle combines the burnt sugar flavors of Demerara rum and honey with coffee. This depth is opened up by the lemon juice base and the clove spiced notes of the falernum. Enjoy a few of these at brunch time! You deserve it.

subspot commented on 1/19/2022:

Might need a little more sweetness, very dry as is with my pineapple gomme syrup from Cocktail Codex which is a 1-1 sugar to pineapple juice (with added acid and gum powder). Almost a bit too christmasy, but very good.

History

Made it up on a Friday night because my wife said she wanted something with Bourbon and Italicus. Totally welcome to advice and alterations, additions, or substitutions. That being said, I'm sure someone has made something similar before so I am probably not the first to bridge these two flavors
