Shake, strain, up.

Notes

This is.... interesting. I've got some pretty dark and punchy clover honey from some dude on the side of the road out by the Bridge of the Gods, and every time I tasted it I kept thinking about Cynar and how it marries flavors. The Mandorla is nice but not critical - it's almondy and helps relieve the bitterness.

Across the Border

1 1⁄2 oz Mezcal, Sombra (or Astral tequila)

2 oz Ginger beer, Fever Tree (or Q brand, to top)
1 wdg Lime (as garnish)
Instructions

Add all ingredients except ginger beer to mixing glass. Add ice and shake well. Strain into Collins glass filled with large ice cubes. Add ginger beer and stir briefly to integrate. Garnish with lime wedge.

Even though I posted this, I actually used Cynar since I didn't have Averna. And Bruce Cost ginger ale instead of ginger beer. Annnnd closer to 1/2 lime than 1/3. But I'm sure it's good either way.

Boston Lady

1 1⁄2 oz Gin
3⁄4 oz Lemon juice
1⁄2 oz Apricot liqueur
1⁄4 oz Grenadine
1 Egg white
Instructions

Shake once without ice and once with ice, and strain into a cocktail coupe.

History

During quarantine, I ran a few virtual USBG Boston Classic Cocktail Happy Hours. During one of them, the topic of drinks created in or named after Boston came up. When the Boston Cocktail was mentioned, I commented that it was Mr. Boston renaming the Bermudian or Bermuda Rose in 1935 to fit a theme instead of creating a cocktail anew. The flavor profile here was influenced style-wise by the classic Boxcar that I had just made to take the Boston Cocktail in a White Lady direction to craft the Boston Lady.

History

I was in the mood for a Daiquiri and I had recently replaced my empty bottle of Cardamaro. I then paired the Cardamaro with Swedish Punsch after recalling how well they worked together in the Mortimer Stump, Deck Hand, and Hearing Trumpet. For the rums, I went with a split of grassy rhum agricole and funky Jamaican rum, and for a name, I dubbed this one the Captains' Mile after a historic stretch of homes in Cape Cod.

A bit too dry, maybe my punsch is too old and has lost some of its flavor but I only get the Smith and cross, a bit of cardamom and not much else. A S&C daiquiri beats this by 2 stars.

History

My Richard Hell and the Voidoids-inspired recipe that got me into the semi-finals for the Copper & Kings' MixTape national competition in 2016. The idea was perhaps inspired by a Champs-Élysées crossed with the Van Dieman from the Café Royal Cocktail Book.

Silver 75

1 1⁄2 oz Tequila, Don Julio Blanco (Any high quality silver/blanco tequila will suffice for e.g Patrón)
1 oz Agave syrup, Monin
3⁄4 oz Lime juice
8 lf Mint (8 Leafs for muddling)
2 oz Champagne (Prosecco & Cava also acceptable to taste, brand isn't important but ideally drier the better)
Instructions

Muddle mint leaves in the bottom of a shaker tin with all ingredients, except champagne. Wet shake for 15 sec. Pour the champagne into a tall collins glass half full of crushed ice from a lewis bag, then double strain your tin on top. Pack the rest of the glass with more crushed ice, garnish with mint and stirring straw.

Notes

Cocktail could also be made with reposado, dark or añejo/aged Tequila and would then be a Gold 75.

Any high quality silver/blanco tequila will suffice for e.g Patrón.

Prosecco & Cava also acceptable to taste, brand isn't important but ideally the drier the better.

Could also add a couple drops of saline (Salt water) to make the flavour profile more complex and bring out the sweet and sour notes.
