Casino Soul

1 1⁄2 oz Añejo rum, El Dorado 12 (A VSOP Rhum Agricole is great, too)
3⁄4 oz Cynar
Instructions

Stir with ice, strain into a chilled coupe. No garnish (or an orange twist).

Notes

Jason Wilson suggests an aged rhum agricole instead of the El Dorado 12, which also works great

  • not in the Rolodex yet
  • Made it with El Dorado 8. The rum is the star of the show—its brown sugar qualities are only enhanced by the caramel of the Cynar, but the vermouth lightens it quite a bit.
  • Tastes like an smooth & herbal demerara rum, really great, El dorado flavors are still there — ★★★★

Belden Anti-hero

3⁄4 oz Honey syrup
1⁄2 oz Amaro Lucano
1⁄4 oz Ginger liqueur, Dekuyper
3 oz India Pale Ale, Revolution Anti-Hero
Instructions

Combine all but IPA with ice and stir. Strain into old fashioned glass and top with IPA.

Notes

Revolution Anti-Hero is a popular local IPA in Chicago. Many IPAs can substitute, something with a balance between definite floral/sweet and hop-bitter: Lagunitas IPA comes to mind, or Dogfish Head 60-90 min come to mind.

History

Belden is a fancy residential street in Lincoln Park, Chicago.

  • The flavor combination of ginger and ipa is genius. I used Averna since I didn’t have Amaro Lucano. Delicious.

Mission Trip

1 1⁄2 oz Blanco tequila, Espolon
3⁄4 oz Aperol
1⁄4 oz Lime juice
1 bsp Cherry preserves (Homemade)
Instructions

Add all ingredients to shaker tin, add ice. Shake. Double strain into rocks glass and garnish with lemon peel.

Notes

You may choose to throw in 1-2 fresh sour cherries or a barspoon of Cherry Heering to replace the cherry preserves, although it's highly suggested to seek out some at a farmer's market or make your own! :)

The Beauty Spot

2 oz Gin
1 oz Vermut Rojo
1⁄2 oz Herbal liqueur, Green Chartreuse
Instructions

Combine all ingredients with ice in a cocktail shaker or large glass. Stir the mixture thoroughly and strain into a coupe. Garnish with an orange twist.

Notes

Try it with a autumnal gin to gear it more toward the fall season. The original recipe calls for any red vermouth, I've only ever used Dolin Rouge.

History

There's a similar gin drink made with 1/2 oz of dry vermouth, 1/2 oz sweet vermouth, grenadine and orange juice so this may be a variation on that.

  • Use Ramazzotti or Averna in place of Lucano
  • Made with Patrón. Lime and sweet vermouth is an interesting combination.

  • Conceptually interesting but just not that tasty. I might never have had any 2 of rum+lime; s.vermouth; Genepy together. Feels like a very lost Daiquiri. Probably wouldn't make again.

Miss Deville commented on 6/29/2018:

Made with Mount Gay Black Barrel and Dolin Rouge. The flavor improved after resting so might try a longer shake next time. I'll definitely try again with a different vermouth.

Not bad, but not much to it. I added 1/2 oz. Dry curacao and 1/4 squeezed orange for a bit more body, also cherry bitters. Needs something more...

  • Made as written and subbing Gran Classico for Aperol. Not substantially different than an Old Pal. Slightly less good.
  • Easy to drink. Gone before you know it!
  • Very tasty, made with Cuty Sark and Cinzano, which was delicious. Tasted like orange chocolate and cherry, well balanced, slightly bitter.
  • A worthwhile variant. I taste chocolate.
