Blackthorn Cocktail #2

2 oz Gin
3⁄4 oz Kirschwasser
3⁄4 oz Aromatized wine, Dubonnet Rouge
1 Cherry (as garnish)
1 twst Lemon peel (as garnish)
Instructions

Add ingredients to mixing glass with ice, stir and strain into glass, garnish with cherry and lemon twist.

Notes

This probably predated the availability of sloe gin in the US.

This was also cleaned up a bit in my effort to normalize the various Blackthorn cocktails running around the database. The poster of this drink adapted the VS&FC recipe as follows: 1.5 oz gin, .5 kirschwasser, .75 Dubonnet, .33 Sloe Gin, 2 dashes cherry bitters. This reverts to the canonical (revised) version of the drink. Thanks,  Zachary

  • Pretty good boozy tipple. The tequila is an inspired inclusion. Its earthiness, and the heavy bitters, help keep the Heering from taking over.

Pretty good cocktail man.  Thanks.  I used Debonett Rouge in place of the Besk for availability purposes and it's pretty damn good.  Very dry but the Lemoncello adds a tiy bit of sweetness and citrus.  Very good.

Baboso

1 oz Old Tom Gin, Ransom
3⁄4 oz Sweet vermouth, Carpano Antica Formula
1⁄2 oz Campari
1⁄2 oz Rye, Rittenhouse

  • Negroni variant
  • As mentioned by others, a very tasty negroni variant. Used a charred jalapeno with good success.
  • This ‘kitchen sink’ variant of a Negroni is wonderful to drink, but laborious to build. My wife coined the drink, “a Negroni with a tutu”, which may be more profound than I can currently fathom. — ★★★★★
  • Very good. Nicely bitter; more buoyant than a Manhattan, but more body than a Negroni. Didn't have a habanero, so used a jalapeño instead. The char worked well.
  • Very nice - has Manhattan-like flavor with a different herbal depth from the gin. 4.5

This is a wonderful, full- flavored drink--even without the charred habanero. For the orange bitters, I used Fee Bros.' gin barrel-aged orange bitters. I rated the "Baboso" at 4.5. With the charred habanero, it might have been a 5.0! 

Given all of the ingredients, perhaps a better name for this libation is "Mulligan stew."
