The Reverb Crash

4 oz White grapefruit juice
1 1⁄2 oz Passion fruit syrup
3⁄4 oz Lime juice
3⁄4 bsp Orgeat
1 oz Light rum (Cuban)
1 oz Dark rum (Jamaican)
Instructions

Put in a shaker with half a cup of crushed ice, shake well and put in a Tiki mug - I guess a 14-16 Oz one , add crushed Ice to fill. Garnish with, eh- I dunno - half a grapefruit, ok, no - with a mint sprig.

Notes

You can use more Orgeat if you want - it depends how strong the taste of the syrup is. The idea is to just feel a bit of it. I used Monin brand which is very strong.

  • Good drink, used Foro because I didn’t have ramazatti and a little less angostura
  • Superbly named, nicely spiced, stiff but smooth.
  • Big, boozy, and bitter.

I first made this one subbing Carpano Antica for the Punt e Mes. After trying it with Punt e Mes, I think I like it better with the Antica. Anyway...

yarm commented on 9/27/2021:

Definitely before 2015. Sother made this for me at a pop-up event in Boston in 2014: https://cocktailvirgin.blogspot.com/2014/11/pumpernickel.html

Slightly different there (Bourbon, 3/4 oz Put e Mes, only 2 dash Angostura) when he made it for me. In Sother's book it is the one listed here with rye and 7 dashes etc. but with Amaro Abano instead of Ramazzotti. It's not uncommon for Amor y Amaro drinks to change the amaro identity over time.

  • Wow! Excellent use of Cynar. I used Ardmore peated and a quarter oz of absinthe instead of wormwood biters.

Wow! Smoky nose, tastes exactly like chinotto soda. Used Peychaud's due to extreme lack of bottles for the moment.

Surprised I haven't tried this one before.  Have a few bottles of Lap 10 that I'm looking to work down, and stumbled upon this.  It's quite good.  As the previous commenter mentioned, this is similar to Chinotto (though with a metallic, ashy finish to me).

Curated this: Added source citation and creator information. Brought drink in line with the cited link - 1.5 oz Black Grouse instead of 2, no orange bitters), added grapefruit twist as garnish. Thanks,  Zachary

1⁄4 oz Crème de Cacao
1 twst Orange peel (as garnish)
Instructions

Stir, Strain, Up, Coupe, Orange Twist

Notes

This recipe was originally recommended for high proof rye. But, I feel lower proof actually makes a nice drink as well. I like Fee Brothers Orange Bitters in this.
