Ginger Sidecar

3⁄4 oz Cognac, Pierre Ferrand 1840
1 1⁄2 oz Ginger liqueur, Domaine de Canton
1 oz Lime juice
3⁄4 oz Orange liqueur, Citronge
3 ds Orange bitters, Regans' orange bitters
Instructions

Combine cognac, canton, lime juice, citronge, and bitters in a shaker. Shake vigorously over ice for at least 20 seconds. Strain into glass.

I thought this was going to be a tad too light on cognac, but it actually ended up being very well balanced. I used Dry Curacao for the orange liqueur. 

Ginger Julep

2 spg Mint
2 oz Bourbon
1 oz Ginger liqueur, Domaine de Canton (*)
1⁄2 oz Lemon juice
1⁄2 oz Simple syrup
Instructions

Fill a cocktail shaker with mint and crushed ice and muddle to bruise the mint. Add bourbon, ginger liqueur, simple syrup, and lemon juice and shake. Strain into a glass. Garnish with mint.

  • Used a mix of muddled blackberries and raspberry preserves in lieu of the marionberry preserves. Tossed in a half (or less) pinch of instant coffee granules for the tinge of espresso. I don’t currently have fernet branca, but I do have Eda Rhyne’s Appalachian fernet to use as a substitute. All that being said, I was SOLD at the very first sip! 5 stars from me.

The tangelo liqueur is a local brand (Schapp Dragon Distillery). Curaçao or other citrus liqueurs (eg mandarin) work as a sub, but then the initials won't spell JRRT.

Made with triple sec (I did not have Curaçao) this is tasty- layers of cocoa, spice, and vanilla. A tad sweet for my taste -- I might try subbing out the Ramazzotti for Amer Boudreaux instead (which contains Ramazzotti but is more bitter)
