  • I love the East Side, and this is so much better. Top fave! Up the mint and cucumber a bit though.
  • A very simple but solid drink that feels very 2010 to me. Good but unremarkable.
  • Gin- sweet, refreshing
  • Made with cucumber-infused Greenall's gin. Accessible and tasty. Using a more "ginny" gin might help differentiate this from, say, a daiquiri. — ★★★★★
  • A bit too lime dominant for me, a fat pour on the st germain improves it. Maybe reduce gin a touch next time.

Caroleiskuehl commented on 4/19/2012:

Made this with St. George "Botanivore" and lemon juice. Excellent.
I used two full mint leaves but the cucumber overpowers the mint a bit.
Next time, I'll use only one cucumber slice.

cswasey commented on 5/17/2013:

I thought this was really refreshing. I'm not a huge gin fan, but this was extremely well balanced. I even used Tanquerey opposed to a couple of our less Juniper-heavy gins we tend to favor. I can't believe I'm saying this, but I intend to have this gin cocktail again this summer.

  • Maybe a little too much lime? But good!
  • Used 2 gin, no cherries.
  • The maraschino really dominates here, a bit too much for me...

Definitely halve the amount of Maraschino; (and I love overly Maraschino'ed cocktails as a rule); but otherwise nice drink..

  • So much better than I expected! Great use of Averna! — ★★★★★
  • Not to alcohol forward. Smooth and not aggressive. — ★★★★
  • Instead of Averna: 0.75 oz Amaro Montenegro, 0.5 oz Campari, 0.5 oz Grand Marnier. Reduce elderflower liqueur to 0.75 oz. Increase lemon juice to 1.5 oz. Club soda - ratio about 1/3 soda to 2/3 other ingredients.
  • Surprisingly tasty and well balanced. I don't buy the ice team claim.
  • Made it with Bulldog and muddled a cherry and 3/4 oz. St. Germain. Refreshing but not remarkable. Tasted rather like bottled iced tea with lemon. — ★★★

Very good, light and refreshing but still interesting. I'll try a little less St. Germain next time as this is a bit on the sweet side.

Stewart commented on 5/20/2015:

Agreed with Christina - reducing St Germain to 3/4 oz is an improvement, as is muddling the cherries before shaking. I also prefer it with Tanqueray instead of Plymouth. Very good as written but excellent with those changes!

Great drink for non-drinkers. Subbed Averna with Vecchio de Capo and even better.
