<br />Which of the many Fee Bros bitters?
How much Strega in place of the Drambuie?

Zachary Pearson commented on 11/30/2016:

There's no telling - this drink is a riff on the cited Autumn Leaves in the way that a Gimlet is a riff on a Martini. Taking a guess, either the regular, the Barrel Aged or something fruity like cherry. Thanks,  Zachary

Made this with High West Double Rye, Carpano Antica and Fee Bros Barrel Bitters - Delicious!

This sounds really good. I like the idea of the massive blast of molasses from the Cruzan Blackstrap with the menthol of the Fernet Branca. I definitely want to try this soon, perhaps starting with a scant portion of honey.

Zachary Pearson commented on 1/12/2012:

This sounds interesting - rum-lime-Fernet makes me think of the rum-lime-Chartreuse combination that I love so much. I'm trying to think about the Luxardo in there - how does it work other than the sweetness?

Well balanced sweet/sour, modest alcohol heat, and fruit/bitter. I muddled the sliced strawberries before shake, and used 10 drops of rhubarb bitters. Great color, good nose. I sense the rhubarb bitter is coming through and augmenting the rest.

  • I cut the lime to 3/4 oz. and the simple syrup to about 1/2 oz., nice sweet-tart balance while still tasting the gin.
  • close but lacked the depth needed to keep it interesting. The Greenall's gin faded behind the tart sweetness of the lime juice and pomegranate molasses. A more flavorful gin would likely do better.

Looks a bit brown and mucky but tastes lovely!

Distiller's Mom commented on 1/07/2024:

A sweet and tart cocktail. The pomegranate molasses is a nice new flavor for me, and the gin used makes a difference. I used a botanical Freeland Spirits blue Gin. It IS brown, but it's a nice autumn color, real pretty with some pomegranate seeds and a sprig of mint.

You know who would really like this? Dan. He loves Creme Yvette... the more the better.

Dan commented on 9/08/2011:

Actually, I've never tried Creme Yvette because I have a 267-year supply of Creme de Violette to use up first. ;)

Zachary Pearson commented on 9/08/2011:

Dan,

If you dissolved pink Peeps in Creme de Violette, you might have Creme Yvette... you will now have nightmares.

christina in tacoma commented on 9/22/2011:

I really like the way the Calvados, Chartreuse, and Creme Yvette combine, but I'm not sure that I care for the gin flavor in the mix- I'll try with less next time, as this was a little boozy-tasting. I used Tanqueray which maybe wasn't the best choice...

christina in tacoma commented on 4/03/2012:

Finally tried again, 1.5 Calvados and no gin which I think it is an improvement. Fruity but not cloying. Worth toying with, and if you don't have Creme Yvette (I have a huge bottle to use up) most any floral liqueur would work...
