Phoebe Snow
Stir, strain, up.
Named for a fictional advertising character for the Delaware, Lakawanna and Western Railroad in the early part of the 20th century. Hers was the gown that stayed white from morn till night upon the Road of Anthracite -anthracite was much cleaner-burning than the bituminous coal used by other railroads. The D,L&W began as a freight line hauling anthracite coal from Poconos mines, but expanded rapidly in early 20th century in passenger services. Interestingly, this character was the impetus for the creation of the Brandy Alexander, according to one story of its creation.
