  • Maybe a tad sweet; would make the cassis measure scant, and the lemon juice fat

Should really be served over crushed ice rather than up, as traditional Bramble.

Holy Smokes

1 1⁄2 oz Blended Scotch, Bank Note
1⁄2 oz Palo Cortado Sherry, Lustau (or oloroso)
1⁄2 oz Bénédictine
1 twst Lemon peel (expressed and discarded)
Instructions

Stir, strain, up, twist, optionally garnish with a brandied cherry.

Notes

Accessible as is, but a bit of Amaro dell'Erborista—whose honey and herbs complement Bénédictine so well—makes this friendlier for the KC set.

Refreshing anise-laden drink. Made with Pernod pastis, it's best served with a plate of fresh strawberries.

Delicious, but you could omit the syrup if don't want it sweet.

Sloe Loris

1 oz Sloe gin
1 oz Dry sherry (Manzanilla or fino)
3⁄4 oz Swedish Punsch
1⁄4 oz Cynar
1 Brandied cherry
Instructions

Stir with ice, strain, coupe, garnish with cherry

Notes

Reversing the proportions of the sherry and punsch makes a slightly richer, if sweeter, drink. At least with my home-made punsch, which errs a little on the sweet side.

History

We weren't greatly enjoying our sloe gin. This was an attempt to tame its dominant flavour; it was successful enough we may now need to replace the bottle. I started with dry vermouth instead of sherry, but the drink was far too sweet. The idea of dry sherry was one of those middle-of-the-night revelations.

  • Thoughtful and well balanced. Not-too-sweet but also not-sour cherry taste, a touch metallic.
  • Found this a bit flat as written - for my taste it needs some bitters to give some depth. I added Bitter Truth Creole and Bittermens Elemakule Tiki, which seemed better to me
