  • did 1/2 oz kahlua ok did blackberry brandy - too sweet - try chambord next time
  • It's ok. The Kahlua makes this a bit too syrupy. Maybe try with less Kahlua or something to balance out. Gave an orange garnish which helped a little. — ★★
  • Great marriage, although Kahlua dominates a bit, but I'll give a 5 to any cocktail using Branca that tastes like something other than just Branca. Would be interested to try with a better coffee liqueur.

  • Went with the CioCiaro sub for Amer Picon - worked. Compared applejack to Calvados - Calvados wins.

This sure looks good, even if it wasn't named after me =) But where does one find Amer Picon?

mahastew commented on 11/04/2011:

Hi Rob,

Amer Picon is not currently imported into the States and is therefore tough to find. Two good substitutes are Torani Amer and CioCiaro.

Dan commented on 11/04/2011:

Happy Day! Bittermen's Amere Nouvelle is now being distributed. I haven't seen it yet in the Boston area, but DrinkUpNY has it for NYC and mail order (into those states that can). Also, if you click the Amer Picon link in the recipe, you'll find similar information to these comments.

aw2cocktails commented on 3/29/2017:

Hi,

A good substitute for Amer Picon is Bigallet's China-China, which I believe is exported to the U.S.

Used Laird's and New Liberty's "Liberty Belle American Picon", tasty. Would maybe add the tiniest splash of syrup next time, which Goldenmoon's Amer Picon attempt also needs in most drinks

  • Cloying is the correct word.
  • The Benedictine is a bit overpowering and contributes to a cloying sweetness. Working on ways to lighten or dry the cocktail. Perhaps a rinse or scant 1/4 oz of Fernet

I can't tell if I agree with the "cloying" reviews or if I love it. I did closer to 1 and 3/4 rye. Def. interesting and would make again. But If I made a change I can't tell what it would be.

  • A tasty summery drink that I would make again. I didn't have the lemon bitters but it was good with Peychaud's.
