  • Drinking this with Zucca instead of Nardini due to local availability problems. It's still delicious. :) Not for people who don't like smoke in their cocktail.
  • Bitter and smokey, even w small amount of islay

Picard Maneuver

Instructions

Stir/Strain/Up?DGAF about garnish. GO ahead and use a potato, I don't care.

Greatly improved if served at just below room temperature. Also greatly improved the third or fourth time around.

  • A cigar-store kinda drink.
  • Tried it with the potato, one that I had cooked with Porchetta, along with a lamb pachuga instead of mezcal. It was good. Passed out, Woke up and could play a flute.
  • This is a real nice drink though I didn't throw any spuds in it (despite being Irish). On my 2nd time through, I added some Rye to it to mellow out the smoke and for fun. Also excellent.

I thought the baked potato added some interesting smoked notes, but my doctor says I should watch my starch intake. 4/5 for me.

I'm probably going to have to redo this fettuccini and cassava root cocktail then.

Picard? Needs more tea, Earl Grey, hot.

  • Used Averna because I don't stock Cynar regularly.
  • Pleasant, boozy cocktail. Made as described.
  • Made a lighter version with hochstadter rye (I don't like bourbon), dolin and cardamaro but it made a beautifully floral orange drink.
  • Very Manhattan-esque except more interesting. But not that much more interesting.
  • One of the best. Delicate and rounded or by orange notes — ★★★★★

Muddle, shake, strain, soda.

Ellestad mentions this works well with 6 raspberries instead of the strawberries.

Why is a drink with absolutely no peach called the Peach Blow Fizz? No clue. "Blow"? Who knows.

Added a bit of honey syrup and some black walnut bitters and I quite liked it after that.

Cute name, smart idea for a contest like that. Where'd you get Medford? It looks like he's from Brighton.

Eric's Facebook profile, though I should probably clarify with him. (NB: Eric's a Facebook pal of long standing, I don't just check the profiles of home bar stars as a matter of course.) Re: the cocktail, I like how in addition to being a very clever take on an Arnold Palmer this drink also features a deconstructed Swedish Punsch (lemon/arrack/tea).

Pittsburgh Coffee

2 sh Espresso
1 1⁄2 oz Drambuie
1 1⁄2 oz Fernet Branca
Instructions

Mix and enjoy in vessel of choice.

Notes

Letting the doubleshot of espresso cool for a few minutes might be ideal. The other two ingredients will get the oils in it flowing again once added. Cooling takes the edge of heat off and prevents any evap of alcohol.

Lemon Drop Fizz

1 oz Gin
1 oz Aromatized wine, Cocchi Americano
3 oz Lemon sorbet
1⁄4 oz Lemon juice
2 oz Prosecco
Instructions

Shake, strain into a tall glass over bubbly.

Notes

I've been experimenting with adding sorbets to classic recipes (Margaritas, Gimlets, Gin Fizzes) and found that they make for extremely accessible and refreshing summer coolers, with varied, engaging textures.
