  • Might be nice as a spritz with a sparkling white
  • Zomg bitter. I upped the orange liqueur to 1/2oz and it was still bitter. Another 1/2oz simple was slightly too much - 1/4oz next time. A different mezcal will change that.
  • Really nice. Very bitter tho. And I like bitter. Needs some sweets. Next time up the Cointreau.
  • Love the bitterness from the Campari, the sharpness of the lime and the smokiness of the mezcal. Used Bauchant orange liquor instead of the triple sec; it's smoother.
  • Too bitter for me. Maybe increase Cointreau to 1/2 ounce or sub for 1/2 ounce benedictine.

I like this drink. It doesn't make me sit up and purr, but it is a solid cocktail, that I would happily drink.

2⁄3 oz Soda water

As an alternative to ginger you can use 2cl of Ginger Beer (eliminating soda).

History

The Whimsey

1 1⁄2 oz Gin, Tanqueray Malacca
1⁄2 oz Campari
1⁄2 oz Lime cordial, Rose's
2 ds Mint Bitters
3 wdg Lime
Instructions

Muddle the 3 lime wedges in a shaker. Then add all ingredients, then add lots of ice, then shake vigorously. Then pour everything into a large frozen glass.

Notes

The muddle'ing idea is fundamental to a Caipirinha and adds some extra lime tartness in concert & contrast with the Campari.

History

With so many choices resting on the bar, I chose these ingredients as possibilities for something whimsically delicious.

Edward Teach

1 3⁄8 oz Dark rum
2 1⁄2 t Triple sec, Cointreau
2⁄3 oz Coffee liqueur, Caffé Borghetti espresso liqueur
1 ds Hot sauce, Tabasco Sauce
Instructions

Shake and strain in an Old Fashioned glass (or in a liqueur glass).
If you want, garnish with light fuses ...

Notes

I prefer to use, instead of Tabasco, a crumbled dry red chilli pepper and make a double strain.

  • Used Wild Turkey 101 rye and Ilegal mezcal joven. The rye overpowered everything. Added 2 drops Boker's bitters to drop the heat. It helped. Also added large ice ball. As is, rated at 3.5.
  • Might make again though shots of straight whiskey would seem to have the same effect.

Faulkner? Perhaps you meant Steinbeck. I'll still try the drink.

Steinbeck, yes! Lapsus. Thank you. And thanks also to the curator!
