Jinjer King

1 oz Ginger shrub (*homemade)
1 part Egg white
1 1⁄2 oz Tonic water
Instructions

Dry shake Canton, Jameson & egg white for ~10 seconds; add ice and shrub and shake till well chilled. Strain into a (8 oz) glass Irish coffee mug and top with tonic--enough to force the meringue over the lip

Notes

*for any cold-process shrub: mix equal parts fruit/peel/herb with sugar and apple cider/red wine vinegar; let stand in a mason jar at room temp for 2 days, strain and re-jar; refrigerate for two weeks and keep for 6 months +

History

One of my cocktailing buddies is a "Big Ginger" fan (a Minneapolis staple), so we were looking to utilize the same flavor elements but with a fuller body and mouthfeel

  • I served this up. Very nice although the Domaine de Canton is mostly overwhelmed by the strawberry rest of the drink. Almost too drinkable. Might try again with a milder rum.

I don't think there's anyway this one would work with Ginger Ale subbed fro the Domaine de Canton. They just aren't substitutes.

Marie Byrd Land is among the most remote and untouched regions of Antarctica, and the largest unclaimed territory in the world. This riff on the Alaska has an icy taste and a ghostly green pallor.

  • Used Benedictine & Elderflower in place of Chartreuse
  • Very interesting and creative. I might experiment with 1/4 less creme de cacao and 1/4 more rye next time

drinkingandthinking commented on 8/08/2018:

I love Last Word experiments and variations, but this one seems to let the Chartreuse dominate and lacks the citrus for balance. Maybe swap out the Cynar for lime? IDK, it was a noble attempt but not what I had hoped for.
