Peppercorn

2 oz Blanco tequila (corn-infused)
1 oz Ancho Reyes chile liqueur
1⁄2 oz Falernum
2 pn Salt
1 wdg Lime (as garnish)
Instructions

Stir or shake; strain over rocks. Garnish with lime (the option to squeeze goes to the drinker) and corn kernels strung on a pick as the bartender's patience allows.

Was striving for the appeal of elotes, without necessarily reproducing those flavors entirely.

This is Not Berlin

1 oz Mezcal
3⁄4 oz Cynar
1⁄4 oz Crème de Pamplemousse
1⁄4 oz Cinnamon syrup
1 twst Grapefruit peel (As garnish)
Instructions

Stir with ice, strain into a doube old fashioned glass with a large ice cube, and garnish with a grapefruit twist.

History

When writing up the Testadura with rum, Cynar, and cinnamon syrup on the blog, I became inspired to riff on the idea. I brought in grapefruit liqueur to complement the cinnamon from the Hawaiian War Chant, and mezcal, grapefruit liqueur, and Cynar worked so well in the Tres Amigos. For a name, I dubbed it This is Not Berlin after a 2019 coming-of-age movie set in Mexico City and centered around a nightclub.

Build in a DOF, add ice and stir. Garnish.

Notes

Personally, I find stirring in a glass a pain in the butt. In the future I would mix it in a mixing glass and strain it.

I agree with the note about building this in the glass being an unnecessary pain unless one is trying to make a show of it. There are some bitters-dripped-on-sugar-cube (followed by muddling the sugar cube) Old Fashioned riffs and recipes that make sense for this, but I would rather pour this one over a cube, then garnish.

Louisiane and Maine

2 oz Rye
1⁄2 oz Sweet vermouth
1⁄4 oz Bénédictine
1 ds Absinthe
1 Brandied cherry, Luxardo (optional)
Instructions

Stir with ice and strain into cocktail glass. Garnish with brandied cherry

Notes

Nicely balanced combination of vermouth, Benedictine and Cherry Heering backed by stiff rye and a gentle, inviting measure of absinthe and bitters. I used Rittenhouse and Cocchi di Torino.

While I like both of the cocktails it is based on, this is a level above either of them. I quickly decided I needed a second, and my wife had the same reaction.

History

A combination of "Remember the Maine" and "A La Louisiane"

Third Shot Drop

2 sli Yellow bell pepper
1 1⁄2 oz Brandy
1⁄2 oz Herbal liqueur, Green Chartreuse
1⁄2 oz Pineapple juice
1⁄2 oz Lemon juice
1⁄2 oz Agave syrup
1 sli Lemon peel (as garnish)
2 sli Yellow bell pepper (as garnish)
Instructions

Muddle 2 chunky slices orange bell pepper in a shaker. Add ice and liquid ingredients. Shake and double strain into chilled coupe. With a channel knife, cut a strip of lemon peel over the drink, then use it to tie together a couple of thin slices of pepper as garnish.

Notes

I subbed Norseman Olympia for the unavailable Chartreuse. Also used orange rather than yellow pepper but that didn't show up in the database.

Besting what I had: 1.25 lillet and 1 oz monkey47 and Bittermans burlesque - long finish thanks to the pineapple. Sophisticated summer drink.

Added .25 Suze for that gentiane edge although it throws off the equal part magic. Nice drink
