Zachary Pearson commented on 12/29/2012:

I'm trying to figure out a way to normalize all the Art in the Age liqueurs, and I think it's best if we call them what they are in the ingredient box (e.g. Ginger liqueur) and use the specific name (e.g. Snap) for the brand. I think we all know (or can find out quickly) that Art in the Age makes these things, and it's not necessary to call them organic.

Thanks,

Zachary

Interesting, but on my taste-buds the Chartreuse overwhelmed the Nonino.

Tried substituting Benedictine which played more happily.

Missing a little of the zip supplied by the Chartreuse.

Tried this combining izarra green and elixir chartreuse instead of sage liquor. And used belvoir ginger cordial. Good overall. Campari is mild. Strong spicy ginger and herbal liqueur worked perfectly.

I tried to up campari and herbal liqueur by 1/4 each but the balance vanished.

Dan commented on 12/24/2014:

Yeah, Stew it was a tad tart, which is surprising. I revised the recipe to include a touch of orgeat, which adds nice depth and couterpoint to the rhubarb, while tilting the drink slightly sweeter.

Christmas Eve

1 oz Ginseng Tea, Il Hwa Ginseng Extra
1⁄2 oz Drambuie
1 t Wild hibiscus syrup, The Wild Hibiscus Flower Company
Instructions

Shake on ice, strain in glass of choice. Garnish with Candied Hibiscus Flower (from the jar that is the source of the Hibiscus Syrup!).

Notes

I had considered the hibiscus flower/syrup but it was about $20 online and costly to be wrong. However, The Fresh Market has is locally for $5....and it wasn't an error. Well worth $5!

A dash of Angostura or other favorite bitters is an attractive option.

Christmas Cheer

1 1⁄2 oz Becherovka
1 spl Cherry syrup (Syrup from a jar of maraschino cherries)
Instructions

Shake w/ ice in a Boston mixer. Garnish with a maraschino cherry (or three).

Notes

This is a highly quaffable cocktail, with the herbals and aromatics in the Becherovka imparting a warm, luxuriant quality to the fruit flavors in the Pama and the cherries. Developed using homemade cocktail cherries, though store-bought maraschino should serve. Other bitters--especially Peychaud's, berry, and stone fruit bases--should give some interesting variations.

  • Did 1.75 of Talisker and .5 of Laphroaig. Quite smokey - which I love. I think the Lemon really plays a significant role here, giving it just a hint of citrus. I'm curious if some bitters would bring something else out.
  • 2:1 na receita do cão. Uma variação com whisky vínico a 2, 1/4 de PX e um dash de luxardo. Rinse de Laphoaig e Pastis no mixing glass
  • Well balanced.
  • A worthy use of Talisker. Complex, smokey. Like a Manhattan for a more contemplative evening. The absinthe dissipates after a few sips. — ★★★★★
