The Beauty Spot

2 oz Gin
1 oz Vermouth Rojo
1⁄2 oz Herbal liqueur, Green Chartreuse
Instructions

Combine all ingredients with ice in a cocktail shaker or large glass. Stir the mixture thoroughly and strain into a coupe. Garnish with an orange twist.

Notes

Try it with a autumnal gin to gear it more toward the fall season. The original recipe calls for any red vermouth, I've only ever used Dolin Rouge.

History

There's a similar gin drink made with 1/2 oz of dry vermouth, 1/2 oz sweet vermouth, grenadine and orange juice so this may be a variation on that.

  • Use Ramazzotti or Averna in place of Lucano
  • Made with Patrón. Lime and sweet vermouth is an interesting combination.

  • Conceptually interesting but just not that tasty. I might never have had any 2 of rum+lime; s.vermouth; Genepy together. Feels like a very lost Daiquiri. Probably wouldn't make again.

Made with Mount Gay Black Barrel and Dolin Rouge. The flavor improved after resting so might try a longer shake next time. I'll definitely try again with a different vermouth.

  • Perhaps it was the kirsch I used, but this didn't come together for me. Has potential.

Not bad, but not much to it. I added 1/2 oz. Dry curacao and 1/4 squeezed orange for a bit more body, also cherry bitters. Needs something more...

  • Made as written and subbing Gran Classico for Aperol. Not substantially different than an Old Pal. Slightly less good.
  • Easy to drink. Gone before you know it!
  • Very tasty, made with Cuty Sark and Cinzano, which was delicious. Tasted like orange chocolate and cherry, well balanced, slightly bitter.
  • A worthwhile variant. I taste chocolate.

  • Delightful! I may ease up on the Luxardo next time.
  • I've had a few like this one lately, and this is one of the better ones. Many are too lemony, but the mint and coffee bitters I added give it complexity. Good balance.

Bijou des Alpes

1 1⁄2 oz Gin
1 oz Cardamaro
1 oz Genepy, Dolin Genepy des Alpes
Instructions

Stir, strain, coupe.

Notes

I used Death's Door Gin, but feel free to experiment, as different gins will bring out different notes in the Cardamaro and Genepy, as will different bitters.

History

A variation of a bijou with Genepy substituted for Chartreuse and the wine-based Cardamaro subbed for the sweet vermouth.

Too whiskey-sour-like with these ratios. I swapped the bourbon and Swedish punsch and added a spoon of aquavit and found it more interesting.

Papa's vermouth cocktail

Instructions

Shake all ingredients except lemon wedges with ice, strain in small wine glass. Spritz both lemon twists on top and garnish with one.

Notes

Variation on the fancy vermouth cocktail as in Imbibe! The grapefruit bitters with the maraschino give it hints of the Hemingway daiquiri.
