  • Didn't have coffee bitters, so used a couple dashes of Angostura, and about 1 ml of coffee liqueur. Not remarkable, but perfectly fine. Not too sweet, just a balanced drink. — ★★★★★

Monk's Manhattan

2 oz Rye, Templeton Rye
1 rinse Bénédictine
1 Orange peel (Flamed, then discard)
1 Cherry, Luxardo (or brandied cherry)
Instructions

Stir, rinse, garnish cherry, strain, flame, discard orange. Served up.

Notes

This is my go-to cocktail. I have posted as originally created, but feel free to swap out the Templeton with another heavily spiced rye (Willett Straight Rye works particularly well). Angostura bitters work, but the Fee have a more pure angostura flavor and it shows in the drink.

  • Maybe reduce the mezcal or choose a milder one
  • Possibilities in alderwood-smoked salt.
  • Comes together after it sits for a bit. My first experience using salt in this manner, and it works interesting magic with the Mezcal and Cynar, in particular. I used Sombra Mezcal and Pierre Ferrand Dry Curaçao

Kentucky Masala

Instructions

To infuse bourbon: add 1 tsp orange zest and 2 split vanilla beans to bourbon, allow to rest for 48-72 hours. Strain out orange zest. --- Cocktail:

This is rather sweet and spicy. One could dial the gomme syrup back to 1/4 oz if desired.
