Sumac Martini

1 oz Vodka (sumac infused, see note)
7⁄8 oz Lime juice
Instructions

Chill a martini or up glass.
Combine in shaker, add ice, shake until cold.
Double Strain.
garnish with sumac/cumin blend sprinkle

Notes

To make the vodka, take 750 ml of your favorite vodka with 3 TB sumac powder. Let steep 2 hrs (or overnight), strain.

"sumac/cumin blend"-4 parts sumac powder, 1 part cumin
(cumin addition courtesy of the poster, you may choose to omit)

Made this for our dinner group's "Ottolenghi" dinner. NIce, tart, punch-like drink.

  • Sumac vodka is an interesting ingredient. Extremely astringent. The drink is well balanced and interesting.
  • I'd consider upping the vodka to 1 1/2 oz, but I like a stiff drink.

The Amargo Vallet Sour

1⁄4 oz Simple syrup
1 1⁄2 oz Amargo-Vallet
3⁄4 oz Cognac VSOP
1⁄2 oz Egg white
Instructions

Shake with ice. Strain into rocks glass. Garnish with lemon twist and cherry if desired.

Notes

Spin off of an Amaro Sour with Amargo-Vallet. Hennessy VSOP Cognac comes in to balance it with some roundness.

Gave it a dry shake and served it up. Very tasty. I like how the woodsy bitter cherry flavor of the Amargo Vallet works with the lemon juice.


The Bittersweet Garden

1 1⁄4 oz Campari
1 oz Gin
1⁄2 oz Herbal liqueur, Green Chartreuse
1⁄4 oz Fernet Branca (rim glass)
1 twst Orange peel (flamed)
Instructions

Stir all but Fernet Branca on ice. Strain into chilled coupe rimmed with Fernet Branca (leaving excess). Garnish flamed orange twist.
