Book of Love

2 oz Kurt's Apple Pie Mead, Moonlight Meadery
1⁄2 oz Lemon juice
4 oz Prosecco
1 pn Nutmeg (Grated for garnish)
1 sli Apple, Granny Smith
Instructions

Fill a mixing glass with ice. Add mead, lemon juice, and sparkling wine. Gently stir a couple times by dragging a barspoon up the sides of the glass so you don't kill the carbonation. Strain into a Champagne Flute. Garnish with Granny Smith apple slice and grated nutmeg.

2-3 stirs is enough. Just looking to quick chill/combine all the ingredients.

Strawberry Fields

2 oz Gin, Tuthilltown Half Moon Orchard
1⁄2 oz Lemon juice
2 lf Basil
4 lf Mint
Instructions

Muddle berries and herbs with simple syrup. Add all other ingredients. Shake vigorously. Serve up in a coupe glass.

Notes

Even though this sounds sweet, it's actually well balanced. If too sweet for some, the simple syrup or Orange juice can be reduced by half an ounce.

  • Perfect autumn vibes. Reduced orgeat (used Liber & Co) to 3/4, and still could prob cut back further, but at this level the whole drink is a likely crowd-pleaser! — ★★★★★
  • The Independent's riff on a Trinidad Sour. I was delighted to see it on the menu back when I lived near the place.
  • Definitely a unique and well balanced cocktail in this style. Very good.
  • Very unique and interesting! I've tried a lot of cocktails that use a hefty amount of bitters, but this one really works. The rich sweetness of the orgeat balances really well with bitters, and the applejack gives it body. — ★★★★★
  • Made with Laird's 100° apple brandy. Lovely tasting autumnal drink. — ★★★★★

Very good, though a bit sweet so I served it over ice, topped with a little club soda, and added a big sprig of mint and it was perfect for a summer afternoon . This is where the rest of my applejack will be used.

<br /> As that ol' song goes, nice & easy does it! And this drink is definitely nice and easy. The Drambuie puts some body into the drink, and and the blended Scotch and Cocchi Americano lightens things up somewhat. The end result, along with the big ice rock in the middle, topped with orange and lemon twist oils, is a drink that is nice & easy. Definitely a late spring thru early fall drink.

Absinthe? How much? Why? I'd like to try your suggestion.

Excellent. I used lemon because orange scares me (uh, and I didn't have one on hand). I'd try the orange next time.

Update: Made again with orange juice and peel. Much better. I also sub'd a very strong and bitter version of Amer Boudreau for the CioCiaro. Excellent.

drinkingandthinking commented on 11/27/2023:

Not bad. I like it better than a Blood and Sand but I'm generally not a fan of scotch cocktails. Lemon is hard to get right. Also maybe a sweeter vermouth like di torino.

Shawn C commented on 12/13/2023:

Very good. I used Johnnie Walker Black w/VIDA mezcal rinse--these had some synergy with a little peat, and a little earthy mezcal at the sip creating a broader and nuanced flavor. The small amount of lemon juice (1/6 oz = 1 barspoon = 1 teaspoon) brightens the berry/grape of the vermouth and the cherry without getting in the way or dominating. The composition was deeply and pleasantly fruity with a clean finish.
